Bone stock '06 WRX TR 1/4 mile times
Last night I went to Virginia Motorsports Park with my 2006 WRX TR. The strip is located at ~100ft above sea level and according to the National Weather Service conditions were as follows:
Relative Humidity 65%
Temperature 50F
Dew Point 28F
Pressure 29.96 in. Hg
My car has just over 5,000 miles on the clock, and I'm running a 'true' factory stock set-up (nothing from the intake, exhaust, engine management, etc has been changed). I used Shell 93 octane gas (had a 1/4 tank), tires were at 40psi all around and I did no weight reduction other than remove my spare tire.
While I've been drag racing for 4+ years now, this was my first time with a WRX. I made a total of 8 passes and my three fastest are displayed below along with the run where I got my fastest 60ft but missed the 2-3 upshift...
On all my runs, I launched between 4,000-5,000rpms with some clutch slip. I'm car #802:
I was talking to an '02 WRX owner at the track and he mentioned that when he had a bov & TBE but was otherwise stock he trapped at 97mph and was able to run a low 13.7 - he was very impressed to see the 2.5L WRXs running so strong from the factory. While I didn't flat-foot shift my car, 95% of my shifting tonight was extremely fast & crisp. I netted my fastest traps & et's with upshifts at: 1-2 6,500rpms, 2-3 6,400rpms, 3-4 6,250rpms.
Here's a couple of pics showing my car in the pits, staging lanes and a shot of my 'factory-stock' engine bay.

P.S. Only change I've made to my car is to swap tail lights with an '05 STi owner - just wasn't feeling the altezzas!

My roommate just bought the exact same car you have (same color even), but he hasn't gotten to the track yet. I'll have to show him this to give him an idea of where he should be at.

Thanks for the feedback folks. I really need to nail down my launches at the track. On the street, I can get adequate wheelspin & no bogging with a launch at 4,000rpms, but with the VHT at the track it takes a launch closer to 5,000rpms to get a similar effect (and the engine may sometimes still bog if they just re-prepped the track).
The '06 WRX's are definitely a step-up power wise from the '02-'05 models and a good deal considering I picked up my TR for 23K.
To show you just how much more power these 2.5L 06's are making, here are two dyno graphs from Cobb Tuning (both done on the exact same awd Mustang dyno) showing stock vs Stage 1 for an '02 and an '06 WRX:
'02 WRX
'06 WRX

FYI, I've attached the timeslip of a run done by a member on the ClubWRX forum (06WhiteWRX) who only has a TBE & short shifter installed on his otherwise stock '06 WRX (no engine management yet).

Hey great times!! I remember seeing numerious stock 02-03 WRX's at the track running mid 14's. Are they really that much harder to work on? I heard because of the boxer configuration that it makes it harder to work on under the hood.

Most average '02-'05 WRX driver's with a decent launch will run a mid 14 sec pass. If they're able to crack off a 1.7-1.8 60ft then 14.0-14.2 second slips can be had but with lower 94-96mph traps.
I definitely know my 2.5L WRX can trap higher as the dragstrip is 1hr 50min one-way from my house and I only let it cool for ~1/2 hr before making my passes. The intercooler definitely started to heat-soak by my 5th run.
The flat 4 engine isn't that hard to work on as most components are right there infront of you. Also you have easy access to the intercooler and turbo if you need to swap them out. Some components such as the spark plugs can be trickier to replace only b/c of the horizontal layout of the engine - but once the airbox and battery are out of the way, they're easier to get to.

The new style of the WRX has grown on me. the TR model is nice. good times on a stock car. Hopefully subie will be making those 2-3 years from now, I am thinking of one of those for my next car but I have a couple years to go in my ralliart.
